Mother's Day, my way

So far, I have had a wonderful Mother's Day. I was the first one up this morning and enjoyed sipping a hot cup of coffee on the porch while soaking up the sunshine and listening to the birds. When I went into the house, I surprised (startled?) James and Aidan, who thought I was out for a walk!

I made buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast. I must admit that I am getting pretty good at making the biscuits and the gravy was beyond delicious. Then I went out for a brisk walk, both to enjoy the gorgeous morning and to work off some of the biscuits and gravy.

My Mother's Day gifts came earlier this week. Aidan potted this pretty little flower for me at his Cub Scouts den meeting on Tuesday:

Yesterday, James brought home this bright green Adirondack chair:

I adore it! I have long coveted the pink Adirondack chair at a house down the street, so I asked for a colorful chair of my own for our work-in-progress patio. Yes, I know that brightly colored plastic furniture is tacky but I have a strong and weird love of tacky (see Flamingos). I plan to do a lot of sitting and knitting in that chair, maybe even this afternoon.

James and Aidan went to Vince's Gourmet Imports to get our lunch. We had originally thought about going to a park for our picnic, but decided to sit outside at our house:

Vince's makes delicious sandwiches - mine had soppressata, cheese, roasted red peppers and Balsamic vinegar. Yum! We also had birch beer to drink:

James also got cannoli for dessert:

Yum, yum, and all mine!

The rest of the day is going to be low key. James is working on the patio, Aidan is playing in his fort in the trees, and I am going to knit, read or do nothing. Dinner will be steak and pierogies on the grill with a little salad on the side. Does it get any better than that? Not for me!

Happy Mother's Day!
