There was a grumpasaurus in my house yesterday - a snarling, glowering, ill-tempered grumpasaurus of epic proportions. After four fun-filled days in a row, reality settled in and Aidan did not like it one bit.
Thursday
It was the first full day out of school and Aidan loved every minute of it. He "slept in" until 7:20 am - egads - then played on the computer, watched television, played outside and even helped me ready the house for guests. In the afternoon, our friends Geri and Fred from Toronto arrived, although they came to our house from Rochester where they had attended the Wegmans LPGA Championship. It was great to see them and to show them the house and neighborhood.
Friday
After a leisurely morning and lunch at Five Guys, Aidan and Fred went golfing (mini golf, that is) while Geri and I went to Sheep Thrills yarn shop. Geri is the person who encouraged me to take up knitting and I consider her to be my knitting mentor, and it was fun to peruse with someone who has far more knitting knowledge than me. The shop was quiet so we were able to talk at length with the woman in charge that day and a friend of hers who had stopped in to knit.
Aidan was attending his first sleepover ever on Friday night, so I got him ready and over to Justin's house by 5 pm. Aidan was so excited that he could hardly stand it! Friday evening was a lovely treat for all of us; Aidan was having fun with his friends and we were able to relax all evening without the company of a nine year old. Ah, luxury!
Saturday
Geri and Fred were on their way by 9 am, then we went to pick up Aidan. I was very impressed that we did not receive a "come get me" call in the middle of the night! He was thrilled that they had stayed up until 2 am. The rest of the day we did some errands but generally stayed around the house. Aidan played outside with the children next door but went to bed, exhausted, early.
Sunday
James and Aidan were out the door before 8 am, meeting up with friends Mike and Ryan to go fishing in Oswego. They had a great morning and even caught a few fish. After they came home around midday, Aidan was able to play outside all afternoon with our neighbors, and again he went to bed a tired but happy boy.
Monday
Ah, Monday - can't trust that day. After the swim lesson in the morning, the day went downhill fast. The neighbor children were not around and I had things to do around the house, so Aidan was a bit at odds. Oh, who am I kidding, he was A LOT at odds. A trip to the library to restock on books helped, and he ended up passing the afternoon reading. By evening he was in a better mood, thank goodness, and he promises that I won't see the grumpasaurus at all today.
