Yesterday we went to Inman Farm Heritage Days at Minter's Farm and had a FABULOUS time. In addition to what seemed like a gazillion tractors and engines, there was a steam traction engine, sawmill, syrup mill and pot, grist mill, threshing machine, log cabin, and blacksmith shop. I read later on their web site that there was also a moonshine still, but we did not see it.
A got to hull corn, pet donkeys, pick cotton and ride on a huge John Deere tractor. The people there were so kind and friendly, and we enjoyed hearing about how things used to be done. The only downside is that I kept getting verklempt as I thought how much my dad would have enjoyed such an event. Every time I saw a little old man wearing a cap (and there were a lot of them there), I thought of Dad - and while I like thinking about him and remembering him, I teared up each time.
Of course, the people watching was spectacular. As the morning progressed and more people arrived, the sights got more and more entertaining. The best sight of all took place as we walked to the car: a guy wearing a full-out mullet hairstyle! He had it all, the bangs cut straight across his forehead and the long hair in the back down to the middle of his back. Completing his look was the Michael Vick football jersey.
The sky was overcast, the humidity was low and the temps in the mid-70s, so it was very pleasant. It was nice to have something nearby to do, since it seems that very little takes place in out here in Hooterville.

The magic number for the Cleveland Indians is 9. The Detroit Tigers have won five in a row and the Indians have faltered a bit, so the number has slowed down in its progression. Oh, the drama!

How fun!! Those farm experiences are a blast with kids. We still try to go to a couple of fall fairs every year. Fred gets all nostalgic when he hears the John Deere tractors. In fact, a while back, he bought a John Deere clock at Cracker Barrel that sounds a different tractor engine on the hour.
